New Blog Wants the World to Know What is Happening at Largest Immigrant Detention Facility in the U.S.

Categorized under | Tags: , , , ,

It is called Tent City and it is the largest immigrant detention facility in the United States.

Found in Raymondville, Texas, the detention camp houses mostly undocumented immigrants from El Salvador, and according to peace activist Elizabeth Garcia, the people are not being treated humanely.

On the outside, the tents look like a model city of the future, but when you think about 200 unrelated people living in each shelter - well, thoughts are as scary as it was for the people from New Orleans who tried to call the Superdome home.

These modern concentration camps, whether in Raymondville or Hutto or other points around the country, are an inhumane way to treat people whose only crime was such desperation for a better life that they pushed their way to the front of the line so they could work for substandard pay — but it was more money than they could have made back home.

Yet, to appease all these voices who claim to be compassionate conservatives, Homeland Security has been working overtime to round up the undocumented and dump them in these places if they are not Mexican citizens.

Story after story of the families torn apart - mothers separated from fathers, children from their parents, young siblings from their older brothers and sisters - the sexual abuse that has occurred, the intimidation by jail guards to make young children stop crying for their parents, the substandard food and medical care received, etc. — all of these documented situations should signal that such facilities should be shut down or the policy be completely revamped so that families are safe and together and no one is being traumatized.

If it weren't for the lawyers or some of the families that have been released from these detention facilites, none of us would know the extent of the horrors Homeland Security is allowing to be inflicted upon these people in the name of keeping America safe.

But Elizabeth Garcia, is going to make sure that everyone knows about Tent City and what is happening.

Though Elizabeth doesn't condone illegal immigration, she doesn't believe in locking people up en masse.

So, Elizabeth has started a blog called Tent City.

At this blog, she vows to be the voice for these people whose voices are going unheard simply because it's easier to ignore them and justify it with the fact that they're not supposed to be here.

But they're not going anywhere, and Elizabeth wants everyone to know that neither is she.

Joe :

Thank you for bringing this to light. Please do what you can to call radio talk shows to expose this issue.

This is very distressing but, sadly, not surprising news. The best defense is to keep ourselves informed.
What is the address of this new blog? I would like to post a link to it from my own blog, and request that my colleagues do the same.

George :

You're right. We should put them all up in hotels at $50.00 per day. Add another $20.00 per day per per day for food miscellaneous expenses and they're all set. The cost for all of this will be borne by their relatives and illegal alien advocates, else it's back to the tents. If you criticize, you're required to provide a solution. If you've got a better idea, let's hear it.

netz :

maybe we can take all the wealth stolen by the true illegal immigrants from europe, wait, if we just corrected that little immigration problem we wouldnt need to fix this one, and we also wouldnt have 100 million dead native men women and kids on the record books. the immigration problem wouldnt exist today if the europeans hadnt come in the first place.
deal with the cause , not the symptom.

John :

I am part hispanic, wanted to get that out there first. I am appalled at the way Mexican people feel about the immigration bill. If you are not a citizen of the U.S. you become one legally, not sneaking in thru the border somewhere. Don't complain about being treated poorly, you are here illegaly. Have something say or critsize, become a citizen otherwise stay in your own country and try to make it better.

George :

Junio,

Surely you're joking. Unless you're pure Amer-Indian, your probably part Spanish, read European. There is now evidence that the Conquistadors conspired with indigenous Amer-Indians to conquer Latin America. There weren't enough Spanish to do the job themselves, so they enlisted the locals to assist them. In the end, it appears that these collaborators were done in by the Spanish. It was your Spanish relatives that were the first European pirates of the Americas, not the English.

IF you don't come here legally you're not an immigrant, you're an illegal alien and you have no rights in MY country. Go Home!

I have visited your site 076-times

Ashley :

I think you are doing a wonderful job keep up the good work. All these American's who also classify themselves as "Dutch,Italian,German" Which if I am not mistaking is another country. Are ignorant people. They don't see the truth in it all. I am married to a Mexican who is now an citizen.People say they come here to steal jobs which if I am not mistaking again, they are hired by the AMERICAN man. They do not hire them because they work for less. They hire them because they do it better. My husband when his status was illegal was getting paid $10 an hour by an American.Bringing home close to $1,400 every two weeks.American's are being cruel people. All of them will find out when the Ice Caps melt. Which according to the media isn't much far from happening. America is going to be drowned out. While the Mexicans patrol their boarders. Not caring about the american man's family. They are gonna say the same thing."GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY".
