Today, the Obama campaign released a new Spanish-language ad entitled "Our Own Road." The ad strives to connect Obama's background with the life realities of most Latinos and, given his life story, it's not a hard stretch. From the time Obama made known his mixed race background and his childhood with a single mother, many young Latinos latched onto his candidacy.

Taking a lesson from McCain, Obama's ad also touches on another issue that the other half of the Latino electorate identifies with — military service. And of course, just for good measure, a reference to immigration reform is thrown in too.
On a conference call with Congressman Becerra and representatives of the Obama campaign, the congressman was asked what the difference was between Obama's ad and McCain's "God's children" ad.
Becerra said that McCain's ad spoke "to" Latinos whereas Obama's ad spoke "with" us.
Yet, in an ad that has to remind people that Latinos are also "God's children," that's not speaking to people, as much as, it is speaking at them.
And usually when somebody is speaking at a person, the lines of communication are only open one way.

Dear Marisa,
have you received any answers to your questionnaire from the Obama campaign ?
Or any specifics with respect to immigration reform, for that matter?
I think you were 100% on target with that questionnaire. I want to hear the answers to those questions from Senator Obama.

He's a politician and will say exactly what you want to hear, but when elected (God forbid) he will quickly forget everything he promised to special interest groups. Be lead like sheeple into his ideas of hope and change and I promise you will someday regret it. The idea that he shares a common experience with young Hispanics is also wrong. He grew up in Hawaii, raised by his white Grandma and attended schools for the privileged. Does not sound like the Hispanic experience to me.

Barak Obama says he will bring about
"change." I understand what he means now. Barak Obama "changes" his position on just about everything every day.
1. No off shore drilling WAS his position.
NOW its okay ...but with some provisos.
2.Michigan and Florida should "abide by the rules." NOW Michigan and Florida
should have a full vote, I wonder what
Barak Obama would do if Michigan and
FLorida decided not to formally cast their votes for him at the Democratic Convention?
3. Withdrawal from Iraq is now to be
"measured."
Barak Obama CHANGES his position almost everyday. Don't expect him to
do honor any of his campaign pledges.
Everything will be revised, revisited and
rewritten.

Irma, somewhere you asked to see Obama's answers to the questionnaire. That is definitely forthcoming. We are still giving the McCain campaign to respond and, in case they do, we want to present a side-by-side evaluation of their answers. If his campaign doesn't respond, then we'll post Obama's answers by next week. I'll post about it and link to it.
